General Introduction to the College-Level Nursing Program

On February 10, 2019, Circular 54/2018/TT-BLDTBXH issued by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) regulating the minimum knowledge volume and competency requirements that learners must achieve upon graduation at the intermediate level and college level for disciplines and professions in the fields of health and social services will take effect.

According to the Regulations on Minimum Knowledge Volume and Competency Requirements for Graduates at Intermediate and Associate Degree Levels in the Nursing Field, issued with Circular 54/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, the nursing field at the associate degree level pertains to the healthcare of patients. The responsibilities include caring for and meeting the basic physical and mental needs of patients, meeting level 5 requirements within the Vietnamese National Qualifications Framework.

A Nurse is responsible for caring for, monitoring, and checking the health status of patients; directly observing and assisting patients throughout the therapy process. The scope of nursing work varies depending on healthcare facilities and job positions. However, the main common tasks in the nursing profession are: reception nursing, administrative nursing, care nursing, rehabilitation nursing, nutritional nursing, and community nursing.

To practice, a nurse must have good health, ethical conduct, sufficient knowledge of politics, law, professional knowledge, and communication skills suitable for the job position. Additionally, they must continuously study to enhance professional competencies, foreign languages, expand societal knowledge, and cultivate carefulness while respecting the individuality of patients.

Note that the minimum knowledge volume for an associate degree in nursing is 2,505 hours (equivalent to 86 credits).
