General Introduction to Medical Imaging Equipment Technology at the Intermediate Level

Circular 54/2018/TT-BLDTBXH issued by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs stipulating the minimum knowledge volume and competency requirements that learners must achieve upon graduation from intermediate and college levels in health and social service sectors, effective from February 10, 2019.

According to the regulation on the minimum volume of knowledge, competence requirements that learners must meet upon graduation from intermediate and college levels in the medical imaging equipment engineering sector, issued in conjunction with Circular 54/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, the Intermediate Level Medical Imaging Equipment Engineering is a sector involving the installation, operation, maintenance, repair, and management of specialized diagnostic imaging machines, meeting level 4 of the Vietnamese National Qualifications Framework.

These are modern, high-precision devices that utilize radiation or physical waves to penetrate patients' bodies, such as X-ray machines, ultrasound, CT... or utilize auxiliary chemicals for printing images such as film processors and film printers, requiring stringent accuracy and safety standards. It is necessary to strictly and fully comply with labor protection, industrial hygiene policies, and thoroughly implement electrical and radiation safety principles.

A medical imaging equipment technician possesses the ability to: Supervise or directly participate in the installation and implementation of medical imaging equipment investment projects in healthcare facilities; operate and instruct the use of machines; maintain and control the machine usage process according to equipment management procedures; repair according to trained competence; conduct, research, arrange auxiliary equipment for the machine room for efficiency; advise on technical solutions, invest in machinery and equipment, and extend machine longevity.

College-level practitioners can take on positions involving the maintenance and repair of diagnostic imaging equipment at public or private healthcare facilities; install, maintain, and repair equipment at businesses that produce imaging equipment.

Additionally, the minimum volume of knowledge for an intermediate-level medical imaging engineering student is 1,615 hours (equivalent to 60 credits).
