From January 05, 2016, Circular 42/2015/TT-BYT of the Ministry of Health guiding the functions, duties, powers, and organizational structure of the Forensic Center of provinces and centrally affiliated cities will take effect in Vietnam.

in the Appendix issued together with Circular 42/2015/TT-BYT stipulating the duties of the Departments under the Provincial Forensic Center in Vietnamas follows:
- Department of Forensic Examination
- Organize and conduct forensic examinations on bodily injuries, determine the cause of death, remains, the mechanism of injury formation, injury-causing objects, sexual, age, and file-based examinations, etc.;
- Conduct other examinations as prescribed by law;
Participate in the Execution Council for capital punishment;
- Perform pre-marital health examinations;
- Determine brain death for the purpose of organ and tissue donation, collection, and transplantation as prescribed by law;
- Research and apply scientific advancements in the field of forensic medicine;
- Perform other tasks assigned by the Director of the Center.
- Department of Pathological Anatomy
- Conduct histological and cytological tests to determine the morphology and extent of injuries;
- Conduct scientific research in the field of forensic pathology;
- Perform other tasks assigned by the Director of the Center.
- Department of Testing and Imaging Diagnosis
- Conduct subclinical tests for forensic examinations;- Implement imaging diagnostic techniques for forensic examinations;
- Research and apply scientific advancements in the field of forensic medicine;
- Perform other tasks assigned by the Director of the Center.
