This is a notable provision in Decree 117/2020/ND-CP on administrative penalties in the field of healthcare.
From November 15: A fine of VND 20,000,000 imposed for sex-selective abortion in Vietnam (Illustrative image)
In Article 100 of Decree 117/2020/ND-CP prescribing penalties for administrative violations for acts of sex-selective abortion, specifically:
1. A fine ranging from 3,000,000 VND to 5,000,000 VND for acts of sex-selective abortion by the pregnant woman without being forced to do so.
2. A fine ranging from 5,000,000 VND to 7,000,000 VND for acts of enticing or persuading a pregnant woman into abortion for predicted sex of the infant.
3. A fine ranging from 7,000,000 VND to 10,000,000 VND for acts of threatening to use force or mentally pressurizing to force a pregnant woman into abortion for predicted sex of the infant.
4. A fine ranging from 10,000,000 VND to 12,000,000 VND for acts of using force to compel a pregnant woman into abortion for predicted sex of the infant.
5. A fine ranging from 12,000,000 VND to 15,000,000 VND for one of the following acts:
- Supplying chemicals or drugs to terminate a pregnancy knowing that the pregnant woman seeks to do so for predicted sex of the infant;- Prescribing or guiding the use of chemicals, drugs, or other methods to terminate a pregnancy knowing that the pregnant woman seeks to do so for predicted sex of the infant.
6. A fine ranging from 15,000,000 VND to 20,000,000 VND for performing an abortion knowing that the pregnant woman seeks into abortion for predicted sex of the infant.
Accordingly, as per the above regulation, actions of abortion for predicted sex of the infant reasons will be fined up to 20 million VND.
