On November 9, 2024, the Government of Vietnam issued Decree 147/2024/ND-CP concerning the management, provision, and use of Internet services and online information.

According to Clause 13, Article 9 of Decree 147/2024/ND-CP, domain names will be temporarily suspended in the following cases:

(1) Upon written request from investigative agencies or competent state authorities, as stipulated by cybersecurity laws and regulations on preventing high-tech crimes, to promptly halt acts of using domains that infringe on national security, order, and social safety according to the law;

(2) Upon written request to enforce a decision implementing measures to prevent and ensure administrative violation handling by competent authorities overseeing information and communication or other specialized inspections;

(3) Cases where the information registered for domain use is inaccurate, the registrant cannot be determined; the registration documents are incomplete or inaccurate; or the registered domain does not comply with management regulations regarding structure and registrant entities;

(4) Registrants using the national domain name of Vietnam ".vn" who do not fully pay the maintenance fees for using the national domain name ".vn" as stipulated by laws on fees and charges.

Cases for removing the status of domain suspension from December 25, 2024 in Vietnam

Domain names that have been temporarily suspended can have their suspension status removed in the following scenarios:

- For cases specified in (1): When the duration specified in the suspension request document expires or upon written request from the agency that issued the suspension;

- For cases specified in (2): When the suspension duration specified in the enforcement document expires or upon written request from the agency that issued the suspension order;

- For the case specified in (3): If the registrant updates complete and accurate information and registration documents within 30 days from the suspension date of the domain;

- For the case specified in (4): If the registrant fully pays the maintenance fees for using the national domain name ".vn" within 30 days from the due date for the fee payment.

Information required for domain registration from December 25, 2024 in Vietnam

Clause 7, Article 9 of Decree 147/2024/ND-CP outlines the information required for domain registration from December 25, 2024, as follows:

- For agencies, organizations, enterprises: Name of the agency, organization, enterprise; electronic identification of the organization; business code; tax code; full address of the headquarters; phone number; email address; information of the domain manager; information of the technical manager of the domain; information of the organization or individual paying the application fee; purpose of domain use in case of registering a domain to establish an electronic information page, social network, electronic newspaper, and update domain usage purpose if it changes;

- For individuals, businesses: Full name of the individual; name of the business, full name of the business owner or representative; date of birth; personal identification number or identity card number or passport number and place of issue, date of issue; business registration code; tax code; full permanent address to the house number; full temporary address to the house number; phone number; email address.
