When passing through alleys, we often come across signs with content such as "Alley 345, road boundary 6m". Many people are quite puzzled and do not know how to understand the road boundary.
Road Boundary Line, also known as the "red line boundary," is a term used by state management agencies to refer to the boundary line of road width planning or alley opening.
The road boundary line marks the end point of the road width measured from the centerline to both sides. Normally, people place boundary markers on both sides of the road to warn residents not to construct solid structures within the demarcated boundary.
According to the provisions in Article 3 of Construction Law 2014, the regulation of the road boundary line or red line boundary on planning maps and in the field is intended to delineate the boundary between the land area for construction works and the land area reserved for transportation roads or other technical infrastructure, public spaces.
In urban areas, the road boundary line is commonly encountered as the red line boundary of the land intended for urban roads, including the entire road surface, sidewalks, and curbs. The construction boundary line is the limit line allowing the construction of houses or works on that land. The construction boundary line may coincide with the road boundary line if the structure is allowed to be constructed close to the road boundary line (land lot boundary); or it may be set back relative to the road boundary line if the structure is required to be set back from the road boundary line (as per planning requirements). The setback distance is the distance between the road boundary line and the construction boundary line.
In construction activities, the construction planning management agency is responsible for providing information about road boundary lines or red line boundaries.
Additional regulations on the construction of road boundary lines can be found in TCVN 9411:2012.
