Decree 84/2008/ND-CP regulates the adjustment of the administrative boundaries of Dong Hy District to expand Thai Nguyen City as follows:

- Adjusting 1,262.96 hectares of natural area and 11,845 people from Dong Hy District to be managed by Thai Nguyen City (including 401.90 hectares of natural area and 5,398 people of Dong Bam Commune, 861.06 hectares of natural area and 6,447 people of Cao Ngan Commune).- Thai Nguyen City has 18,970.48 hectares of natural area and 256,346 people, comprising 28 administrative units, including the wards: Tan Long, Quan Trieu, Quang Vinh, Dong Quang, Quang Trung, Thinh Dan, Tan Thinh, Hoang Van Thu, Phan Dinh Phung, Trung Vuong, Tuc Duyen, Gia Sang, Tan Lap, Phu Xa, Trung Thanh, Tan Thanh, Cam Gia, Huong Son and the communes: Tan Cuong, Phuc Trieu, Phuc Xuan, Thinh Duc, Quyet Thang, Phuc Ha, Tich Luong, Luong Son, Cao Ngan, Dong Bam.- The administrative boundaries of Thai Nguyen City: East adjacent to Phu Binh District; West adjacent to Dai Tu District and Pho Yen District; South adjacent to district-level town Song Cong and Pho Yen District; North adjacent to the districts: Dong Hy, Dai Tu, Phu Luong.

After adjusting the administrative boundaries:

- Dong Hy District retains 45,774.98 hectares of natural area and 114,608 people, comprising 18 administrative units, including the communes: Hoa Thuong, Huong Thuong, Nam Hoa, Tan Loi, Cay Thi, Hop Tien, Khe Mo, Van Han, Hoa Trung, Quang Son, Van Lang, Tan Long, Hoa Binh, Minh Lap, Linh Son and the commune-level towns: Chua Hang, Trai Cau, Song Cau.- The administrative boundaries of Dong Hy District: Southeast adjacent to Yen The District, Bac Giang Province; West adjacent to Phu Luong District; South adjacent to Phu Binh District; South - Southwest adjacent to Thai Nguyen City; North - Northeast adjacent to Vo Nhai District.
