Expanded Vaccination Indicators in Vietnam in 2024

Plan for 2024's Expanded Vaccination Program in Vietnam is issued together with Decision 1596/QD-BYT issued on June 10, 2024, which sets out Expanded Vaccination Indicators for vaccines and disease surveillance.

Expanded Vaccination Indicator in Vietnam in 2024

The 2024's Expanded Vaccination Program takes place nationwide in 63 provinces and centrally run cities of Vietnam. According to section II.2, the Plan for 2024's Expanded Vaccination Program sets out the following indicators:

- Achieve the vaccination rate of vaccines in the Expanded Program on Vaccination according to the Indicators in Table 1.

Use of vaccines in the Expanded Immunization Program in 2024 that ensures safe and timely immunization in Vietnam

- Activity details: organizing the vaccination of vaccines in the Expanded Immunization Program to meet targets and ensure safety and effectiveness; organizing the vaccination of Hepatitis B vaccine for newborns at hospitals and health stations; organizing vaccination for children with underlying conditions, children in need of screening at hospitals; organizing regular vaccination at least twice a month, conducting catch-up vaccinations within the month; implementing catch-up and booster vaccinations in the Expanded Immunization Program for individuals who have not been fully vaccinated.

- Implementation period: Quarters I-IV, 2024

- Lead unit: Provincial Departments of Health

- Coordinating units: Provincial Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Institutes of Epidemiology and Hygiene, Pasteur Institutes, and related units.

Strengthening monitoring of vaccine-preventable diseases in the 2024's Expanded Immunization Program in Vietnam

Central level, regional level

- Activity details:

+ Guiding provinces and cities in monitoring vaccine-preventable diseases in the Expanded Immunization Program; monitoring and tracking progress, compiling data, regular and ad hoc reporting to evaluate the effectiveness of vaccine implementation and propose additional vaccination plans, catch-up vaccinations, preventive measures, payment, and disease elimination.

+ Maintaining laboratory testing for vaccine-preventable diseases in the Expanded Immunization Program at Institutes of Epidemiology and Hygiene, Pasteur Institutes. Guiding localities in implementing diagnostic testing techniques for disease identification.

+ Implementing monitoring of rotavirus-induced diarrhea, congenital rubella syndrome, and meningitis.

- Implementation period: Quarters I-IV, 2024

- Lead unit: National Institute of Epidemiology and Hygiene

- Coordinating units: Department of Preventive Medicine, Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Institutes of Epidemiology and Hygiene, Pasteur Institutes, Provincial Departments of Health, Provincial Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, healthcare facilities, and related units.

Local level

- Activity details: Maintaining monitoring of vaccine-preventable diseases in the Expanded Immunization Program. Investigating cases, collecting specimens according to regulations for acute flaccid paralysis, suspected measles, rubella, neonatal deaths, and suspected neonatal tetanus at healthcare facilities and the community to achieve set targets; integrating surveillance to detect diseases in the Expanded Immunization Program.

- Implementation period: Quarters I-IV, 2024

- Lead unit: Provincial Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

- Coordinating units: Institutes of Epidemiology and Hygiene, Pasteur Institutes, Provincial Departments of Health, District Health Centers, vaccination facilities.
