Each whole person impairment (WPI) is calculated as a percentage of the WPI at one time in Vietnam

According to Circular 20/2014/TT-BYT, the total percentage of WPI rate of a person not exceeding 100% is one of the principles for determining the WPI rate in Vietnam. Additionally, the Circular mentions 05 other principles as follows:

- Each organ injury of the body and each sequela caused by this injury is only counted once for the percentage of WPI rate. In cases where one organ is injured but complications have been identified in a second organ, the percentage of WPI rate is additionally calculated for the sequela of the injury in the second organ.

- If multiple bodily injury rates are symptoms belonging to a syndrome or disease stated in the Injury Rate Table specified in Article 1 of this Circular, the percentage of WPI rate is determined according to that syndrome or disease.

- When calculating the percentage of the WPI rate, only use the decimal up to two digits. In the final result, round up to get the total percentage of WPI rate as an integer number (If the decimal is greater than or equal to 0.5, round up to 1 unit).

- When calculating the percentage of WPI rate of a body part or organ with symmetrical or synergistic functions where one side is injured or has an existing pathology that has been identified, the percentage of WPI rate is calculated for both the injured or pathological organ or part.

- During assessment, based on the actual injury and the extent of the injury's impact on the life and occupation of the assessed subject, the assessor evaluates and determines the percentage of WPI rate as stipulated in this Circular.
