Circular 30/2017/TT-BYT was issued by the Ministry of Health on July 11, 2017, detailing the methods of drying in the processing of traditional medicinal materials.
Accordingly, Circular 30 stipulates the drying methods in the processing of traditional medicine with the purposes of:
- Drying the medicinal herbs to ensure hydrolysis;- Preserving medicinal herbs or reducing energy consumption during drying.
At the same time, Circular 30 also prescribes techniques and applications in processing as follows:
- Direct sunlight drying method:
- Medicinal herbs after being sliced are evenly spread on trays and then dried under the sun until dry;- This method can be applied to all medicinal herbs except those containing essential oils.
- Indirect drying method (not directly under the sun):
- Medicinal herbs after being sliced are evenly spread on trays and then dried in the shade, in a well-ventilated place;- This method can be applied to medicinal herbs containing essential oils such as Mint, Perilla, Shiso...
Post-processing quality requirements are stipulated in Circular 30 to meet the following criteria:
- For the direct sunlight drying method: Dry medicinal herbs with the characteristic aroma of each medicinal herb;- For the indirect drying method: Dry or nearly dry medicinal herbs, retaining their aroma and without discoloration.
