The Ministry of Information and Communications issued Decision 977/QD-BTTTT on June 14, 2024, approving the strategy for the development of Vietnam's international fiber optic cable system until 2030, with a vision to 2035.

Deployment and Operationalization of at Least 10 New Submarine Fiber Optic Cable Routes in Vietnam

According to Decision 977/QD-BTTTT, the development goals for Vietnam's international fiber optic cable system until 2030 are as follows:

- Deploy and operationalize at least 10 new submarine fiber optic cable routes with modern technology, increasing the total number of submarine fiber optic cable routes in Vietnam to a minimum of 15 routes with a minimum capacity of 350 Tbps.

- Deploy and operationalize at least 02 submarine fiber optic cable routes owned by Vietnam, connecting directly to regional Digital Hubs.

- The deployment of Vietnam's submarine fiber optic cable system shall be harmoniously distributed in all technically feasible directions: connecting to the East Sea to the north; connecting to the East Sea to the south; and connecting to the southern sea region.

- Deploy and operationalize at least 02 new international terrestrial fiber optic cable routes, ensuring that total international terrestrial fiber optic capacity reaches at least 15% of the practical usage capacity of the submarine fiber optic cable system.

Thus, according to the above objectives, by 2030, at least 10 new submarine fiber optic cable routes will be deployed and operationalized, increasing the total number of submarine fiber optic cable routes in Vietnam to a minimum of 15 routes with a minimum capacity of 350 Tbps.

**Vision to 2035**

Vietnam's international fiber optic cable system will lead the region in terms of number, capacity, and quality, becoming an advantage to attract investment, build large data centers (Data Center), and large to super-large cloud service providers (Hyperscale Cloud). Diverse, safe, sustainable connections will make Vietnam an important link in the region's and international digital infrastructure and data transmission infrastructure, providing advantages and motivation to turn some cities into Digital Hubs, promoting digital economy development, digital society, and digital transformation.

Deployment of International Fiber Optic Cable Routes According to the Roadmap in Vietnam

- By 2027:

+ Deploy and operationalize an additional 4 new submarine fiber optic cable routes, increasing total capacity to a minimum of 134 Tbps.

+ Continue maintaining Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan as the main Digital Hub connections.

+ Regularly review, evaluate Digital Hubs, and develop plans to maintain/relocate/add suitable connection points periodically.

+ Complete and operationalize at least 01 submarine fiber optic cable route owned by Vietnam.

+ Deploy and operationalize at least 01 new international terrestrial fiber optic cable route.

- From 2028 to 2030:

+ Deploy and operationalize at least 6 additional submarine fiber optic cable routes, increasing the total designed capacity of submarine fiber optic cable routes to a minimum of 350 Tbps.

+ Complete and operationalize at least 01 additional submarine fiber optic cable route owned by Vietnam.

+ Deploy and operationalize at least 01 additional new international terrestrial fiber optic cable route.

+ Maintain connection of up to 90% of submarine fiber optic cable capacity to at least 04 major regional Digital Hubs in Asia.

+ Maintain backup connections of at least 10% of submarine fiber optic cable capacity to at least 02 major Digital Hubs in the Americas and Europe.
