Decree 80: 10 criteria for technology selection for treatment of wastewater in Vietnam

Recently, the Government of Vietnam has issued the Decree No. 80/2014/NĐ-CP on the drainage and treatment of wastewater.

According to Decree No. 80/2014/NĐ-CP of Vietnam’s Government, in order to select technology for treatment of wastewater to meet requirements, the following criteria should be met:

- Efficiency of the technology: ensure the quality of wastewater treatment, with due account taken of the self-purification of the receiving waters.

- Land saving.

- The conformity of the management, operation and maintenance to the capability of the local users.

- Reasonable expenditures, with due account taken of the dependence on imported technology.

- The suitability for the local natural characteristics i.e. climate, topography, hydrogeology and the receiving capacity of the receiving waters.

- Safety and environmental friendliness.

- Capability of improvement in capacity or efficiency of treatment in future.

- Sustainable operation when there are irregular changes of the input wastewater, weather and climate.

- The amount and treatment of waste sludge.

- Capability of energy saving and recycling wastewater and waste sludge.

Depending on specific cases, provincial People’s Committees shall decide which criteria to be applied.
