Decree 61: Identification of Ranks of Vietnamese Coast Guard Officers

According to current regulations, the insignia of the Vietnam Coast Guard represents the rank of officers, professional soldiers, cadets, non-commissioned officers, and soldiers of the Vietnam Coast Guard worn on the shoulder of the uniform.

To be specific, Article 12 of Decree 61/2019/ND-CP stipulates that the insignia of the Vietnam Coast Guard consists of a base, border, insignia button, stars, and bars (for officers and professional soldiers) and stripes (for non-commissioned officers and soldiers). The insignia for officers of the Vietnam Coast Guard, professional soldiers of the Vietnam Coast Guard, and cadets training to be officers, non-commissioned officers, and technical specialists in the Vietnam Coast Guard are regulated differently. Specifically, the insignia for officers of the Vietnam Coast Guard is regulated as follows:

- Shape: Two short edges and two long edges;- Insignia base: Blue; the base for officers of general rank has imprinted decorative patterns of the Dong Son drum, with the center of the drum at the position of the insignia button;- Border: Yellow;- On the base: Yellow insignia button, bars, and stars. The insignia button is round, embossed with a pattern (for generals, the national emblem; for colonels and captains, two rice spikes surrounding a yellow five-pointed star in the center); the insignia for generals has no horizontal bar; colonels have two horizontal bars; captains have one horizontal bar; and the number of stars:

- Second Lieutenant, Senior Lieutenant Colonel, Major General: 01 star;- First Lieutenant, Lieutenant Colonel, Lieutenant General: 02 stars;- Captain, Colonel: 03 stars;- Major, Senior Colonel: 04 stars.
