Decree 40: Titles in Scientific Research and Technology

The scientific research titles and technology titles listed in Clause 1, Article 4 of Decree 40/2014/ND-CP are as follows:

- Scientific research titles (hereinafter referred to as scientific titles) include: Research Assistant, Researcher, Principal Researcher, Senior Researcher;

- Technology titles include: Technician and equivalent, Engineer and equivalent, Principal Engineer and equivalent, Senior Engineer and equivalent.

Besides, the rank of professional titles for individuals engaged in scientific and technological activities in public service providers with scientific and technological activities includes:

- Scientific title ranks include: Scientific title rank IV is Research Assistant, scientific title rank III is Researcher, scientific title rank II is Principal Researcher, scientific title rank I is Senior Researcher;- Technology title ranks include: Technology title rank IV is Technician and equivalent, technology title rank III is Engineer and equivalent, technology title rank II is Principal Engineer and equivalent, technology title rank I is Senior Engineer and equivalent.

The Ministry of Science and Technology develops and promulgates standards for scientific titles and technology titles such as Technicians, Engineers, Principal Engineers, and Senior Engineers after agreement with the Ministry of Home Affairs. Ministries, ministerial-level agencies, agencies under the Government of Vietnam regulate the standards for technology titles in specific technology fields under their management authority, equivalent to Technicians, Engineers, Principal Engineers, Senior Engineers after consultations with the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
