Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training has issued Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT on the Regulation on High School Graduation Examination.

According to the provisions of Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT, the high school graduation exam in 2020 aims to: Assess the learning outcomes of learners according to the educational goals of the high school education program and the continuing education program at the high school level (collectively referred to as the high school program); use the exam results to recognize high school graduation; serve as a basis for evaluating the quality of teaching and learning at high schools and the direction work of educational management agencies. Higher education and vocational education institutions can use the high school graduation exam results for admission purposes.
This Circular stipulates the exam date, exam schedule, exam content, exam format, and the duration for each subject of the high school graduation exam. Specifically:
- Exam date, exam schedule: Specified in the annual high school graduation exam organization guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET).- Exam content: The exam content is within the high school program, mainly the 12th-grade program.- Exam format: The exams for Mathematics, Foreign Language, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences are in the form of multiple-choice (collectively referred to as multiple-choice exams); the Literature exam is in the form of essay (collectively referred to as essay exams).- Duration for each subject: Literature 120 minutes; Mathematics 90 minutes; Foreign Language 60 minutes; 50 minutes for each component subject of the Natural Sciences and Social Sciences combined exams.
Organization of 05 exams, including: 03 independent exams: Mathematics, Literature, Foreign Language; 01 combined Natural Sciences exam (abbreviated as NS) consisting of the component subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology; 01 combined Social Sciences exam (abbreviated as SS) consisting of the component subjects History, Geography, Civic Education for those studying the high school education program or the component subjects History, Geography for those studying the high school-level continuing education program.
