Daily Dispensation of Methadone at Treatment Centers: Procedures and Guidelines

According to the regulations in Circular 14/2015/BYT, the daily Methadone dispensation at a Methadone treatment facility is conducted as follows:

- The pharmacy storage manager prepares an appropriate amount of Methadone for dispensation to the dispensing department;

- The daily Methadone dispensation from storage to the dispensing department must meet the following requirements:

- Fully record information in the daily Methadone dispensation logbook;- Have the signatures of two key holders of the Methadone storage cabinet;- Have confirmation from the person in charge of the pharmacy department at the Methadone treatment facility or an authorized person designated by the head of the Methadone treatment facility to confirm the handover of Methadone from storage to the dispensing department. The authorization must be done in writing. The authorized person cannot delegate this responsibility to another person.

Moreover, the Circular stipulates the Methadone dispensation at the Methadone dispensing facility as follows:

- The pharmacy management staff prepares an appropriate amount of Methadone for dispensation to the dispensing staff;

- The Methadone dispensation must meet the following requirements:

- Fully record information in the daily Methadone dispensation logbook;- Have the signatures of two key holders of the Methadone storage cabinet;- Have confirmation from the person in charge of technical and professional duties at the Methadone dispensing facility or an authorized person designated by the head of the Methadone dispensing facility to confirm the handover of Methadone from storage to the dispensing department. The authorization must be done in writing. The authorized person cannot delegate this responsibility to another person.

The daily return of unused Methadone from the dispensing room to the storage: Dispensing staff must check the remaining unused Methadone for the day and hand it back to the pharmacy storage manager to record it in the daily Methadone dispensation logbook according to Point b, Clause 1 and Point b, Clause 2, Article 10.
