According to Clause 1, Article 3 of Circular 07/2022/TT-BVHTTDL, the general standards of professional ethics for coaches include:
- Enthusiasm for the profession, enthusiasm, responsibility, and ensuring the requirements are met on time and quality with the assigned work.
- Be frank, honest, objective; work scientifically; have clear opinions; polite, modest, and proper attitude when dealing with people; respect colleagues; consciously fight wrong and negative acts; practice thrift, fight waste.
- Have a spirit of solidarity, positivity, initiative, and good coordination with colleagues in performing assigned tasks.
- Have a sense of learning and training to improve quality, qualifications, capacity, expertise and professionalism.
The title of senior coach must meet the following standards for training and retraining qualifications:
- Having a university degree or higher with a training discipline or major relevant to the discipline or field of physical training and sport;
- Having a certificate of standard training for professional titles of public employees specializing in physical training and sports.

Specifically, in Clause 3, Article 4 of Circular 07/2022/TT-BVHTTDL, the standards of competence, expertise, and professionalism of senior coaches include:
- Firmly grasping the guidelines of the Party, policies and laws of the State on physical training and sports and developing high-achievement sports;
- Understanding of theories and methods of physical education and sports training theory; firmly grasping and regularly updating techniques, tactics, technical and tactical development trends of the sport in the country and in the world;
- Having knowledge of education, psychology, biomedicine, exercise and sports, nutrition, use of adjuvant drugs, and regulations on doping prevention and control in sports training and competition;
- Mastering and properly applying the rules of the sport's competition; the charter, organization, and operation regulations of the national and international sports federations;
- Knowing first aid for injuries to athletes in training and sports competitions;
- Having the ability to direct and organize coordination with colleagues in professional activities to improve the quality of sports training;
- Having basic information technology skills, using foreign languages or using ethnic minority languages for officials working in ethnic minority areas according to job position requirements.
In order to be able to take the exam or be considered for promotion to the professional title of senior coach, candidates must meet the conditions specified in Clause 4, Article 4 of Circular 07/2022/TT-BVHTTDL, specifically as follows:
- Having held the title of main coach (class II) or equivalent for a full 06 years or more. In the case of equivalent duration, at least 1 year (full 12 months) is required to hold the professional title of main coach (class II) by the deadline for submitting the application for registration for competition or consideration for promotion;
- During the time of holding the title of main coach (class II) or equivalent, he has directly coached and trained athletes to achieve at least one of the following achievements: a medal at the Southeast Asian Games Asia, Southeast Asian Para Games, Asian Games, Asian Para Games, Youth Olympic Games, Southeast Asian regional championships, Asia, world or qualified to attend the Olympic Games or Paralympic Games.
Circular 07/2022/TT-BVHTTDL takes effect from December 10, 2022.
