Content and Format of the Examination for Promotion from Class II to Class I Teacher Professional Titles

1. General Knowledge Exam

- Exam format:

The head of the competent authority organizing the rank promotion exam decides to choose one of the following three formats: Written essay or multiple choice or a combination of both written essay and multiple choice.

- Exam duration: Written essay 150 minutes; multiple choice 45 minutes; combination of written essay and multiple choice 120 minutes.

- Exam content: Examining the knowledge and understanding abilities of teachers regarding the Law on Public Employees, specialized laws, viewpoints, policies, and guidelines of the Communist Party and State on education and training in general and specifically the current educational level they are teaching; international trends, strategic development directions of the sector, and educational development strategies and policies at the current educational level they are teaching. Applying the knowledge and understanding of the aforementioned issues to propose solutions to practical problems arising at the educational level in line with the standards of a Grade I teacher professional title.

The exam's knowledge volume and content in the public employee law is 30%; in the field of education and training is 70%.

2. Professional and Vocational Exam

- Exam format: Presentation and direct interview

- Exam duration:- Preparation: The contestant prepares a report according to the guidelines on exam content at point c, clause 2, Article 4 of Circular 20/2017/TT-BGDDT;- Presentation: Maximum 15 minutes per contestant;- Direct interview: Maximum 15 minutes per contestant.

- Exam content: Contestants present an overview report on teaching and student education results, management and direction work results (for teachers in management positions) from the time of appointment to the current rank until the registration time for rank promotion; interview regarding professional issues related to the field of responsibility, and solutions to current educational issues linked to the standards of professional competencies and expertise of a Grade I teacher professional title.

3. Foreign Language Exam

- Exam format: Multiple choice

- Exam duration: 45 minutes

- Exam content: Testing reading comprehension and writing skills at level 3 foreign language proficiency according to regulations in Circular 01/2014/TT-BGDDT issuing the 6-level foreign language proficiency framework for Vietnam.

- Examining foreign language: Contestants register to take one of the following foreign languages: English, Russian, French, German, Chinese.

For teachers who teach one of the aforementioned foreign languages, they must take a second foreign language at level 3 proficiency according to the regulations in Circular 01/2014/TT-BGDDT.

4. Informatics Exam

- Exam format:

The head of the competent authority organizing the rank promotion exam decides to choose one of the following two formats: Multiple choice or practical on a computer.

- Exam duration: 45 minutes

- Exam content: Basic information technology usage skills according to the standards of a Grade I teacher professional title.
