The Law on Guard Force 2017 stipulates that the Guard Force is a specialized force responsible for protecting national security under the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Defense, with the function of performing guard duties to ensure absolute safety for the protected subjects.
The conditions and standards for selecting individuals into the Guard force are stipulated as follows:
- Vietnamese citizens aged 18 and above, regardless of gender, who have political qualities, ethics, good health, clear background, and voluntarily serve long-term in the Guard force;- Possess diplomas, technical and professional certificates, talents, and skills relevant to the specific nature of the Guard's work;- The Minister of Public Security and the Minister of National Defense shall provide specific standards for selecting individuals into the Guard force.
Once within the Guard force, officers and soldiers of the Guard are obligated and responsible for the following:
- Absolutely loyal to the Communist Party of Vietnam and the State of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; ready to fight and sacrifice to ensure absolute safety for the guarded subjects;- Absolutely keep confidential the Guard's work, strictly implement Guard measures as prescribed by this Law and other relevant legal regulations;- Regularly study to enhance political courage, professional expertise, and physical training to fulfill their duties;- Be accountable before the law and to their superiors for their decisions while performing Guard tasks.
