One of the new points in the Law on Tourism 2017 is the promotion of tourism activities in residential communities. Community-based tourism is understood as a type of tourism developed based on the cultural values of the community, managed, organized, and benefited by the residential community.
The state introduces policies to encourage and support community-based tourism activities through the following regulations:
- Individuals and households where community-based tourism is developed are incentivized and encouraged to provide accommodation and dining services; guide tourists to visit, and experience the culture and lifestyle of the community; produce goods, traditional handicrafts, and other services for tourists.- Provincial-level People's Committees organize research, surveys, and select locations with potential for community-based tourism development; have policies to support the initial necessary equipment and foster knowledge and skills for serving tourists for individuals and households in the community participating in tourism services; support in promoting community-based tourism products.- Commune-level People's Committees where community-based tourism is developed organize propaganda, dissemination, and raise awareness of the community; take the lead in building community commitments to preserve cultural identity, protect the environment, and behave in a civilized manner with tourists.
Tourism Law 2017 effective from January 1, 2018.
