On September 09, 2014, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment issued Circular 53/2014/TT-BTNMT stipulating the submission of geological and mineral specimens to the Geological Museum in Vietnam.

Circular 53/2014/TT-BTNMT stipulates the types of geological and mineral specimens to be submitted to the Geological Museum in Vietnam. To be specific:
Rock specimens, including: sedimentary rocks, igneous rocks, metamorphic rocks, tectonic rocks with characteristic properties, representative of geological formations distributed in the area, the project implementation area for basic geological and mineral investigation; newly discovered rock specimens.
Newly discovered fossilized biological specimens that can be identified down to genus and species level and have value for age determination.
Natural state mineral specimens including:
- Fuel minerals: coal, lignite;
- Metallic minerals, including ores of: iron, manganese, chromite, molybdenum, tungsten, nickel, bismuth, lithium, antimony, copper, lead, zinc, tin, bauxite, titanium, rare earths, gold, silver, platinum;
- Industrial minerals: apatite, barite, fluorite, phosphorite, serpentine, talc, asbestos, vermiculite, mica, dolomite, feldspar, kaolin, quartzite, magnesite, ceramic clay, refractory clay, bentonite, glass sand, diatomite, graphite, white marble, quartz;
- Gemstones, semi-precious stones: corundum, jadeite, garnet, chalcedony, topaz, tektite, onyx, crystal quartz, beryl, ruby, sapphire;
- Ornamental stones.
Additionally, this circular stipulates that organizations and individuals conducting basic geological investigations of minerals are responsible for fully submitting specimens, ensuring the quantity, specifications, and quality of specimens, accompanied by two (02) sets of geological specimen recording sheets. To be specific:
- The location for submitting specimens is the Geological Museum in Hanoi or its branch in Ho Chi Minh City;
- The Geological Museum is responsible for inspecting, receiving specimens, and issuing a receipt confirmation for the submission of geological and mineral specimens to the submitting organization or individual as per prescribed form;
- The time for inspection, receipt, and issuance of receipt confirmation shall not exceed three (03) working days from the date of receipt of complete specimens and valid documents;
- The cost of specimen collection activities at the Geological Museum is allocated from the annual budget provided by the state as per legal regulations.
