On May 15, 2014, the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam issued Circular 15/2014/TT-BGDDT on the Regulation of Master’s Training.

Under the Master's Training Regulations issued together with Circular 15/2014/TT-BGDDT, the master's training in Vietnam aims to help students supplement, update, and enhance knowledge of their majors or specialties; increase interdisciplinary knowledge; gain deep expertise in a specialized field of science or skills to apply such knowledge in practical professional activities; work independently, think creatively, and have the capability to detect and solve issues in the trained sectors or majors. The form, language, and duration of master's training in Vietnam are as follows:
Master's training is conducted in the form of full-time training.
The official language used in master's training is Vietnamese. Training in a foreign language is decided by the training institution according to the regulations of the Prime Minister of Vietnam.
The duration of master's training ranges from one to two academic years. To be specific:
+ At least 1 academic year for undergraduate majors or specialties with duration of 5 years or more and accumulated credits of 150 or more;
+ From one and a half to two academic years for those majors or specialties not covered by the above stipulation;
+ Based on the training program regulations, the head of the training institution in Vietnam specifies the training duration and the extension period suitable for each major or specialty. The extended training period must not exceed two years longer than the stipulated duration mentioned above.
