Circular 11/2018/TT-BGTVT: Regional Connection in Shared Bridges

Circular 11/2018/TT-BGTVT stipulating common bridges and traffic in the area of common bridges was issued on March 28, 2018. One of the notable contents in Circular 11/2018/TT-BGTVT is the regulation on connectivity in the area of common bridges.

To be specific, according to the provisions in Articles 14 and 15 of Circular 11/2018/TT-BGTVT, in the shared bridge area, the railway traffic signals must be connected to the road traffic signals to ensure the system operates synchronously and stably, guaranteeing road and railway traffic safety according to the following principles:

- When the railway signal is open, allowing the train to pass over the bridge, the road traffic signals at both ends of the bridge must be closed, prohibiting road vehicles from entering the bridge;- When the road traffic signal at one of the bridge ends is open, allowing road vehicles to pass over the bridge, the railway signals at both ends of the bridge must be closed, prohibiting trains from entering the bridge;- When the road traffic signal at one end of the bridge is open, allowing road vehicles to pass over the bridge, the road traffic signal at the other end of the bridge must be closed, prohibiting road vehicles from entering the bridge.

At the same time, the Circular also stipulates the connection of roads leading to and from the shared bridge as follows:

- The road segments leading to and from the shared bridge must be connected to the road system in the area to ensure fluent and unobstructed movement for road vehicles;- The connection of road segments leading to and from the shared bridge to the national highway must be carried out in accordance with the provisions of law on road traffic.
