Circular 08: Issuance of standards and norms for the use of ultrasound machines in Vietnam

This is an important content stipulated in Circular 08/2019/TT-BYT guiding the standards and norms for the use of specialized machinery and devices in the field of healthcare in Vietnam.

Issued together with Circular 08/2019/TT-BYT is the list of standards and norms for the use of specialized medical devices in Vietnam. For ultrasound machines, the usage norms are as follows:

No. Type Unit of Measurement Quantity
1 Cardiovascular ultrasound machine Machine + Average usage demand ≤ 300 cases/month/location: maximum 01 machine/unit.

+ Average equipment usage capacity over 300 cases/month/machine will be supplemented with the next machine norm.

+ 01 machine/Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) Room; Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit.
2 General ultrasound machine Machine + Average usage demand below 600 cases/month/location: Maximum 01 machine/unit.

+ Average usage demand 600 - 1600 cases/month/location: Maximum 02 systems/unit.

+ Average equipment usage capacity over 800 cases/month/machine will be supplemented with the next machine norm.

+ Maximum 01 machine/Intensive Care Unit; emergency; post-operative recovery, intervention, and units using support ultrasound techniques.

More details of the norms for other devices can be found in Circular 08/2019/TT-BYT, which comes into force in Vietnam from August 1, 2019.
