Calculation of the Maximum Values of Pollution Parameters in Wastewater from Cassava Starch Processing

On September 27, 2017, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment issued Circular 31/2017/TT-BTNMT specifying detailed regulations on the calculation of the maximum values of pollution parameters in wastewater from cassava starch processing.

Circular 31 stipulates the maximum allowable values of pollution parameters in cassava starch processing wastewater when discharged into the receiving water source as calculated by the following formula:

Cmax = C x Kq x Kf

Where:

- Cmax is the maximum allowable value of the pollution parameter in cassava starch processing wastewater when discharged into the receiving water source;- C is the value of the pollution parameter in cassava starch processing wastewater;- Kq is the coefficient of the receiving water source corresponding to the flow rate of a river, stream, canal, ditch, channel; volume of a lake, pond, lagoon; intended use of coastal seawater;- Kf is the flow rate coefficient of the discharge source corresponding to the total flow rate of cassava starch processing wastewater when discharged into the receiving water source.

Note:

- Apply the maximum allowable value Cmax = C (without applying coefficients Kq and Kf) for pH and Total coliform parameters.- Cassava starch processing wastewater discharged into the urban drainage system, residential areas without centralized wastewater treatment plants will apply the value Cmax = C.

See details at Circular 31/2017/TT-BTNMT effective from December 1, 2017.
