Biodiversity conservation facilities in Vietnam: Relevant regulations

According to Article 42 of the Law on Biodiversity 2008 of Vietnam, biodiversity conservation facilities are established for conserving biodiversity, conducting scientific research and organizing ecotourism, and include:

- Facilities rearing or planting species on the list of endangered precious and rare species prioritized for protection;

- Wildlife rescue centers;

- Facilities storing endemic, endangered precious and rare crop plant varieties, domestic animal breeds, microorganisms and fungi which have special scientific, medical, economic, ecological, landscape, environmental or cultural and historical values; and facilities storing and preserving genetic resources and genetic specimens.

Facilities fully satisfying the following conditions will be granted biodiversity conservation facility certificates:

- Having adequate land areas, cages and physical foundations meeting requirements for rearing, planting or breeding species on the list of endangered precious and rare species prioritized for protection; wildlife rescue; or storing and preserving genetic resources and genetic specimens;

- Having technicians with appropriate professional qualifications;

- Being financially and managerially capable.

A dossier of registration for establishment of a biodiversity conservation facility comprises:

- An application for establishment of a biodiversity conservation facility;

- The establishment project;

- Documents proving the satisfaction of the conditions specified in Clause 2 of this Article.

Provincial-level People’s Committees shall grant biodiversity conservation facility certificates.
