Approval of the Project on development of animal feed processing industry in Vietnam

The Prime Minister issued Decision 1625/QD-TTg in 2023, approving the Project to develop the animal feed processing industry until 2030.

**General objective:

Promoting existing potential, further enhancing domestic animal feed production and processing capacity to ensure quality and food safety, lowering product prices, and reducing the proportion of imported animal feed ingredients.

**Detailed objectives:

- Industrialization of the production of domestic supplementary foods has advantages (microbial products, enzymes, herbs, natural compounds, macrominerals, trace minerals, natural minerals, etc.) to provide about 20–25% of demand by 2025 and 30–35% by 2030.

- Promote the application of high technology and advanced technology in processing agricultural, industrial, and food processing by-products, making animal feed for industrialization, improving use value, and improving economic efficiency.

- Industrial animal feed output reaches 24–25 million tons in 2025 and 30–32 million tons in 2030; meet at least 70% of the total demand for animal feed in the province.

- Expand a portion of agricultural land to produce animal feed ingredients in the direction of industrialization to meet domestic demand and limit imports.

Contents, tasks, and solutions of the Project on Development of the Animal Feed Processing Industry in Vietnam

1. Develop and innovate the technology level of industrial animal feed production in areas with a livestock development orientation

- Review mechanisms and policies related to investment in building animal feed production facilities along the value chain associated with livestock development areas.

- Assess the current state of technology in domestic animal feed production to recommend investment and technological innovation in a synchronous, modern, and effective direction.

- Develop industrial animal feed production in areas where there is still large livestock farming space; limit the opening and expansion of industrial animal feed production facilities in areas with high livestock density and high density of animal feed production facilities.

2. Develop industry to produce supplementary foods and process agricultural and industrial by-products for animal feed

Review policy mechanisms related to investment, import, technology transfer, perfecting technology for producing some types of complementary foods and processing agricultural, industrial, and food processing by-products... as animal feed.

3. Convert a portion of agricultural land to produce animal feed ingredients to meet domestic demand and limit imports

- Assess the current status of agricultural land that can be converted to expand the area for producing raw materials for animal feed.

- Apply scientific and technical solutions to produce crops with productivity and quality suitable for regions and regions towards industrialization to reduce costs and improve competitiveness with imported raw materials to partly meet the demand for raw materials for animal feed production.
