On August 24, 2024, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam issued Decision 895/QD-TTg approving the National Forestry Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.

The Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam approves the National Forestry Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, with the following objectives:

(1) General Objectives

Establish the forestry sector as an economic and technical industry based on the establishment, management, protection, development, and sustainable use of forest resources and forest land; ensure broad and equitable participation of organizations and individuals in forestry activities, mobilize social resources; maximize the potential, roles, and values of forests for sustainable development; increasingly contribute to socio-economic development, environmental protection, conservation of natural resources, biodiversity, and climate change response.

(2) Specific Objectives

- Ensure to maintain the national forest cover rate stably from 42% to 43%, focusing on improving forest quality, especially the existing natural forests.

- The average growth rate of forestry production value reaches 5.0% to 5.5%/year. The export value of wood and forest products reaches 20 billion USD by 2025 and 25 billion USD by 2030; the domestic consumption value of wood and forest products reaches 5 billion USD (converted) by 2025, 6 billion USD (converted) by 2030.

- Plant an average of 238 thousand hectares/year of production forests. Plant an average of 8.6 thousand hectares/year of protection and special-use forests. Restore an average of 22.5 thousand hectares/year of natural forests; the area of forests certified for sustainable forest management will reach over 1.0 million hectares by 2030.

- The volume of wood harvested domestically reaches 35 million m³ by 2025 and 50 million m³ by 2030.

- By 2025, the income value from production forest plantations per unit area increases 1.5 times, by 2030 increases 2 times compared to 2020.

- Forest environmental service revenues increase by an average of 5%/year. In the period 2021 - 2025, revenues are about 3,500 billion VND/year, in the period 2026 - 2030, revenues are about 4,000 billion VND/year.

- The infrastructure system, forestry information technology, especially the infrastructure serving forest fire prevention and fire fighting are invested synchronously.

- By 2030, 100% of the forest area managed by organizational forest owners will be sustainably managed to improve the effectiveness of natural resource conservation, biodiversity conservation, and ensure the protective function of forests, minimizing legal violations in forestry.

(3) Vision to 2050

- By 2050, establish the forestry sector as an economic and technical industry, leveraging the potential and advantages of tropical forest resources; applying modern and environmentally friendly technology; producing many high-value-added products and services, proactively participating in the global value supply chain; increasingly contributing to the sustainable development of the country; contributing to livelihood improvement, green economy development, circular economy associated with preserving and promoting the traditional cultural identity and living space of ethnic communities; ensuring national defense, and security of the country.

- Manage forests sustainably, conserve natural resources and biodiversity; ensure environmental security, water resource security, prevent forest loss, forest degradation, land degradation, minimize the impacts of natural disasters, proactively respond to climate change; actively engage and fully and responsibly implement international commitments.
