On December 31, 2023, the Prime Minister issued Decision 1756/QD-TTg approving Kon Tum Province Planning for the period 2021–2030, with a vision to 2050.
The overall objectives till 2030
Kon Tum province becomes a province of rapid, comprehensive, sustainable, and equitable development based on a green, circular economy rich in national cultural identity. Strive to make the province one of the average provinces in the country; is a key national medicinal area and a major pharmaceutical production center of the country; is a key national and regional tourism center associated with Bo Y international border gate economic zone and Mang Den tourist area convenient connection with major socio-economic centers of the region, the whole country, the international region of the Mekong sub-region, neighboring countries, and ASEAN. Continue to develop Kon Tum province in a multi-industry and multi-sector direction, including industry, services, agriculture, urban areas, and rural areas. Among them, agriculture applies high technology; ecological, cultural, and historical tourism; smart urban areas and new rural areas rich in identity are the focus; Green industry and large-scale urban systems are top concerns. Focus on developing renewable energy; forest economic development is associated with ecosystem restoration and biodiversity protection. Develop a synchronous infrastructure system; have a close development relationship with neighboring provinces in the region and the whole country; ensure environmental sustainability; and have an effective response to climate change.
Vision to 2050:
Kon Tum province is an important development pole of the Central Highlands region's economy and the East-West economic corridor with Mekong sub-region countries; is an important connection point at the economic intersection of North - South, East - West; have a synchronously developed and modern infrastructure system; have an economic foundation capable of competing equally in the international arena. "Stable, sustainable and equitable" development; Completely build a digital economy, green economy, and circular economy; effectively use natural resources and growth resources; and have a dynamic, open, transparent, and friendly investment environment. People have high incomes and prosperous and happy lives. Ensuring the ecological environment and adapting to climate change. National defense, political security, and social order and safety are maintained.
Regarding urban system planning plans
By 2030, the whole province will have 12 urban areas, including:
- 01 class II urban area: Kon Tum city.
- 05 class IV urban areas: Ngoc Hoi town, Dak To town (Dak To district), Dak Ha town (Dak Ha district), Sa Thay town (Sa Thay district), and Mang Den town (Kon Plong district ).
- 06 urban areas of type V: Dak Glei town (Dak Glei district) and Dak Rve town (Kon Ray district); Kon Ray town (center of Kon Ray district); Ia H'Drai town (district center, Ia H'Drai district); Tu Mo Rong town (center of Tu Mo Rong district); It is expected to establish a new urban area in Mo Rai commune (Sa Thay district).
