Allocation of personnel for the anesthesiology and resuscitation department at healthcare facilities in Vietnam

On August 20, 2012, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment issued Circular 13/2012/TT-BYT guiding the work of anesthesia and resuscitation.

According to Article 6 of Circular 13/2012/TT-BYT, the allocation of personnel of the Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation is arranged in the following components:

- Administration: includes the head nurse of the department and administrative staff. The number of administrative staff is determined by the director of the medical examination and treatment facility based on the proposal of the head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation.

- Pre-anesthetic examination: includes at least 01 (one) anesthesiologist, 01 (one) anesthesiology nurse, and 01 (one) orderly.

- Surgery: The allocation of personnel for each surgery procedure includes at minimum 01 (one) anesthesiologist, 01 (one) anesthesiology nurse, 01 (one) instrument nurse, 01 (one) circulating nurse, and 01 (one) orderly.

- Recovery: includes at least 01 (one) anesthesiologist, nurses (the number of nurses depends on the number of recovery beds with a ratio of 02 (two) nurses in charge of 05 recovery beds), and 01 (one) orderly.

- Surgical intensive care: includes at least 01 (one) anesthesiologist in charge of 03 beds, 1.5 nurses in charge of 01 bed, and 01 (one) orderly.

- Pain management: includes at least 01 (one) anesthesiologist, nurses (the number of nurses depends on the number of beds, with a ratio of 01 (one) nurse in charge of 02 beds), and 01 (one) orderly.

- The above positions may work concurrently in different departments depending on the actual allocation of personnel of the medical examination and treatment facility, but must be appropriate to the professional practice certificate for medical examination and treatment.
