(Chinhphu.vn) - According to Minister of Public Security To Lam, the addition of "place of birth" information on the personal identification page of the passport is necessary, facilitating our citizens' entry into other countries.
Presenting the Proposal on the implementation of the Law on Exit and Entry of Vietnamese Citizens related to the information "place of birth" in passports, Minister of Public Security To Lam clarified that from July 01, 2022, the Ministry of Public Security has launched the issuance of new ordinary passport templates for citizens.
Before officially issuing the new passport template, the Ministry of Public Security cooperated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform the representatives of all countries in Vietnam about the new passport template.
However, by July 27, 2022, some countries announced a temporary suspension of visa issuance for the new Vietnamese passport template, citing the lack of "place of birth" information on the passports.
To address this difficulty, the Government of Vietnam directed the Ministry of Public Security and Vietnamese representative agencies abroad to print additional annotations for the "place of birth" information in the new passport templates for citizens.
Minister of Public Security To Lam: Researching and adding the "place of birth" information on the biographical page of the passport is necessary and should be done soon.
Countries request Vietnam to soon add the "place of birth" information to the biographical page
Foreign countries have agreed to print additional information on the passport for citizens; however, they request that Vietnam soon add the "place of birth" information to the biographical page.
In this situation, the Government of Vietnam recognizes that researching and adding the "place of birth" information to the biographical page of the passport is necessary and should be implemented soon.
According to the Minister of Public Security, adding the "place of birth" information to the biographical page of the passport will facilitate citizens in applying for visas, entry, residence, and other related procedures in countries that require the "place of birth" information on passports; this addition does not incur additional procedures and costs.
Adding the "place of birth" information to the biographical page of the passport is necessary to facilitate our citizens' entry into other countries; however, due to the urgent time, it is not feasible to amend the Law on Exit and Entry of Vietnamese Citizens or issue a separate Resolution on this matter.
Therefore, the Government of Vietnam proposes that the National Assembly agree to add the "place of birth" information on passports issued to Vietnamese citizens, authorizing the Minister of Public Security to amend and supplement legal documents within their authority to add the "place of birth" information to the passport templates issued to Vietnamese citizens, including this content in the general resolution of the Fourth Session of the National Assembly, Session XV.
