Circular 22/2015/TT-BYT guides the testing steps in the mosquito repellent cream trials as follows:
Step 1: Release 200 mosquitoes into each cage;
Step 2: Two people who do not apply mosquito repellent cream place their left hands into the cages marked with blue (01 cage for males, 01 cage for females). Every hour, place the hand into the cage for 30 seconds to count the number of mosquitoes touching the exposed area. If the number of mosquitoes touching is over 10, it meets the requirement. If in 30 seconds <10 mosquitoes touch, the test result needs to be canceled. The test is monitored hourly: 01, 02, 04, 06, 08 (according to the mosquito repellent chemical's duration indicated on the label). After each hour of monitoring, replace with 200 new mosquitoes;
Step 3: Two people who apply mosquito repellent cream place their left hands with the cream applied into the cages marked with red (01 cage for males, 01 cage for females). Every hour, place the left hand into the cage for 30 seconds to count the number of mosquitoes touching the exposed skin of the left hand. Monitor hourly: 01, 02, 04, 06, 08 according to the duration indicated on the label. After each hour of monitoring, replace with 200 new mosquitoes;
Step 4: The test is repeated 03 times under similar conditions, and the participants and controls switch places on the 2nd and 3rd days;
Step 5: Results are recorded according to the table stipulated in Appendix 1 issued with this Circular.
