36 Prohibited Items to be Carried When Boarding an Aircraft in Vietnam

According to Decision No. 1531/QD-CHK dated July 11, 2017, the Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam stipulates a prohibition on carrying the following 36 items on a person or in carry-on baggages:

Weapons or devices designed to cause injury or threaten human lives or items mistaken for weapons

Handguns, rifles, submachine guns, shotguns, hunting rifles, and other types of guns with similar features and effects
  1.  
Gun parts
  1.  
Air guns such as pistols, rifles, and guns that fire BBs, paintballs, rubber bullets
  1.  
Flare guns and signal guns
  1.  
Homemade guns, spear guns
  1.  
Rubber guns
  1.  
Laser guns or laser-emitting devices (except for laser pointers used in teaching and presentations)
  1.  
Daggers, swords, sabers, spears, maces, bayonets, knives, machetes, knuckle dusters, clubs, bows, arrows, crossbows
  1.  
Items and toys resembling real weapons such as guns, bombs, mines, grenades, bullets, torpedoes, sea mines, shell casings, items crafted from shell casings
Devices/equipment designed to stun or incapacitate the target
  1.  
Shock devices such as tasers and stun batons
  1.  
Devices/equipment used to stun or kill animals
  1.  
Chemical spray cans, gas spray cans used to incapacitate or paralyze such as tear gas, acid solution spray, tear-inducing gas spray, insect repellent spray (except for spray cans used for disinfection on aircraft)
Sharp objects that can be used to cause serious injury
  1.  
Items designed for chopping, cutting, splitting such as axes, cleavers
  1.  
Razor blades, utility knives
  1.  
Knives with blades (excluding handles) longer than 6 cm or with total length of handle and blade over 10 cm
  1.  
Scissors with blades longer than 6 cm from the pivot or with total length of handle and blade over 10 cm
  1.  
Other sharp objects that can be used as attack weapons with total length over 10 cm
  1.  
Tripods, cameras, sticks, umbrella handles with metal tips
Work tools that can be used to cause serious injury or threaten the safety of the aircraft
  1.  
Pry bars, pickaxes, shovels, spades, sickles, crowbars, chisels, pickaxes
  1.  
Drills and drill bits, including hand drills
  1.  
Tools with sharp blades or points longer than 6 cm and capable of being used as weapons such as screwdrivers
  1.  
Hammers, wrenches, spanners, pliers with length over 10 cm
  1.  
Saws, saw blades including hand saws
  1.  
Blowtorches
  1.  
Nail guns, screw guns
Blunt objects that can cause serious injury when used in an attack
  1.  
Sports equipment such as baseball bats, golf clubs, hockey sticks, billiard cues, ski poles
  1.  
Batons such as rubber batons, metal batons, wooden batons
  1.  
Martial arts training devices, tools (blunt, sharp-edged)
Flammable or explosive items that can be used to cause serious injury or threaten the safety of the aircraft

Ammunition

Detonators, slow-burning cords
  1.  
Items mimicking an explosive device
  1.  
Mines, grenades, other military explosive devices
  1.  
Fireworks such as exploding fireworks, sparklers, firecrackers, flares, signaling fireworks and firework compounds

Smoke bombs, smoke-generating devices
  1.  
Explosives, gunpowder
  1.  
Gasoline, oil, fuels for lighters, unsafe matches (strike-anywhere matches), items containing liquid oxygen

In addition, Decision 1531 (effective from September 01, 2017) also stipulates the prohibition of carrying the following dangerous items in checked baggages on aircrafts in Vietnam:

  1. Ammunition. Except when approved for transportation in checked luggage by the aircraft operator under specific conditions as stated in Part 8, Chapter 1, Section 1.1.2 of the Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) - Doc 9284.
    (Note: This does not apply to souvenir items crafted from shell casings)
  2. Detonators, slow-burning cords.
  3. Mines, grenades, other military explosive devices.
  4. Fireworks such as exploding fireworks, sparklers, firecrackers, flares, signaling fireworks, and firework compounds.
  5. Smoke bombs, smoke-generating devices.
  6. Explosives, gunpowder.
  7. Gasoline, oil, fuels for lighters, unsafe matches (strike-anywhere matches), items containing liquid oxygen.
