Recently, the Ministry of Health of Vietnam issued Circular 15/2006/TT-BYT on the sanitary examination of clean water, drinking water and household lavatories in Vietnam

Circular 15/2006/TT-BYT prescribes 13 contents of examination of the hygiene of drinking water for household lavatories in Vietnam as follows:
- Location of latrine construction;
- Sanitation around the latrine;
- Number of fecal treatment tanks, condition of the fecal treatment tanks, the interface between the tank lid and the walls for septic tanks and pour-flush latrines, or the fecal compartment for two-compartment latrines;
- Water discharged from the fecal treatment tank for septic tanks or fecal outlet for two-compartment latrines;
- Latrine floor;
- Latrine seat, water valve of the latrine seat for septic tanks and pour-flush latrines; lid cover of the latrine hole for two-compartment latrines and pit latrines with vent pipes;
- Flushing water, water container for flushing;
- Filler material for two-compartment latrines and pit latrines with vent pipes;- Container for soiled paper;
- Vent pipe;
- Flies, insects in the latrine;
- Foul odors;
- Latrine shielding.
Additionally, this Circular also prescribes the method for evaluating water sanitation for household lavatories using the checklist method regulated for septic tanks, pour-flush latrines, two-compartment latrines, and pit latrines with vent pipes in Appendix 3 issued together with this Circular.
Details can be found in Circular 15/2006/TT-BYT which comes into force in Vietnam from January 4, 2007.
