Working in mines, tunnels, and pits is one of the very dangerous jobs, and therefore it is necessary to equip workers with technical safety equipment to ensure their safety. Consequently, the State has issued Circular 50/2018/TT-BCT on the National Technical Standards for the safety of personal self-rescue devices used in underground mines.
According to Circular 50, personal self-rescue respirators must meet the following general requirements:
- Before being put into use, they must be inspected and tested to determine technical parameters.- Personal self-rescue respirators that have been opened, have expired, or fail to meet technical requirements during inspection and testing must be destroyed.- Personal self-rescue respirators must be recorded in a monitoring log from the time they are put into use.- Environmental conditions for using personal self-rescue respirators in absorption mode:- Oxygen (O2) content not less than 17%;- Carbon monoxide (CO) content not more than 1%;- Carbon dioxide (CO2) content not more than 2%.- Regarding the provision of personal self-rescue respirators:- Workers must be equipped with personal self-rescue respirators when in underground mines.- Underground mines with flammable, explosive, toxic gases must have a number of personal self-rescue respirators exceeding the number of workers by 10%. Mines without flammable, explosive, toxic gases may have a number of personal self-rescue respirators less than the total number of workers listed working in the mine.- For underground mines classified as III or higher according to methane gas and Group II sulfide ore mines, workers in these areas must be equipped with isolating self-rescue respirators.
