Decree 06/2019/ND-CP has been signed and promulgated by the Government of Vietnam regarding the management of forest plants, endangered, precious, and rare forest animals, and the enforcement of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
According to Decree 06/2019/ND-CP, when raising endangered wild animals listed in the CITES Appendix for commercial purposes, the raising facility must meet the following conditions:
- Ensure legal breeding stock: legally exploited; specimens processed and confiscated according to legal regulations; legally imported or specimens from other lawful breeding facilities;- Pens and farms must be constructed in accordance with the characteristics of the raised species; ensure safety conditions for people and animals, environmental hygiene, and disease prevention;- The raised species must be announced by the Vietnam CITES Scientific Authority as capable of continuous reproduction over many generations in a controlled environment; and breeding and rearing do not affect the existence of the raised species and related species in nature, confirmed in writing by the Vietnam CITES Scientific Authority;- Have a breeding plan.
