04 Changes in Social Insurance Benefits for Employees in Vietnam

the Government of Vietnam issued Decree 72/2018/ND-CP adjusting the statutory pay rate effective from July 01, 2018, which has changed Social Insurance benefits.

To be specific, the employees need to be aware of several cases where the level of Social Insurance (BHXH) benefits is increased as follows:

- The benefit level for convalescence and health rehabilitation after sickness is increased from VND 390,000 to VND 417,000 per day.

- Female employees giving birth or employees adopting a child under 6 months of age are entitled to a one-time allowance per child increased from VND 2,600,000 to VND 2,780,000. In case of childbirth where only the father participates in social insurance, the father is entitled to a one-time allowance of VND 2,780,000 (previous level was VND 2,600,000) per child;

- Employees who die due to occupational accident or disease, or during the initial treatment period of occupational accident or occupational disease, their relatives are entitled to a one-time allowance of VND 50,040,000 (previous level was VND 46,800,000);

- The benefit level for convalescence and health rehabilitation after injury or disease treatment per day:

-    If    resting    at    home,    increased    from    VND    325,000    to    VND    347,500;
-    If    resting    at    a    centralized    facility,    increased    from    VND    520,000    to    VND    556,000.

The above contents are respectively based on Article 29, Article 38, Article 51, and Article 52 of the 2014 Law on Social Insurance.
