Vietnam: Holiday schedule for New Year's Day and Lunar New Year 2021 for officials, public employees and workers

1. New Year 2021: Officials and public employees and workers will have 03 days off

According to the 2021 calendar, New Year 2021 (January 1, 2021) will fall on a Friday, therefore, the New Year holiday schedule for officials and public employees and workers is as follows:

For officials and public employees:

According to the regulations in Decision 188/1999/QD-TTg, officials and public employees, workers of administrative units, career organizations, political organizations, and socio-political organizations implement the policy of a 40-hour work week in 5 days, with weekends off on Saturday and Sunday.

As New Year 2021 (January 1, 2021) falls on a Friday, officials and public employees will have 03 consecutive days off from January 1 to January 3 (01 day off for New Year 2021 and 02 weekend days off).

For workers:

- In case workers follow 02-day per week off policy (Saturday & Sunday), they will have 03 consecutive days off from January 1, 2021 to January 3, 2021.

- In case workers follow 01-day per week off policy (Sunday), they will have 01 day off on January 1, 2021.

Thus, in general, both officials and public employees and workers will have 03 days off. In case a worker works on Saturday, they will have a day off on January 1, 2021.

2. Lunar New Year 2021: officials and public employees and workers will have 7 days off

According to Official Dispatch 9895/VPCP-KGVX, Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam Nguyen Xuan Phuc agreed with the proposal of the Ministry of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs regarding the Lunar New Year Tân Sửu 2021 holiday schedule. Specifically, officials and public employees and workers will have 7 days off during the Lunar New Year (from February 10, 2021 to the end of February 16, 2021) and 4 days off for National Day (from September 2, 2021 to the end of September 5, 2021).

Therefore, during this year's 2021 Lunar New Year, officials and public employees and workers will have 07 days off. The official holiday period is from February 10, 2021 (Wednesday) to February 16, 2021 (Tuesday) Gregorian calendar (i.e., from December 29th of the Year of the Rat to the 5th day of the first lunar month of the Year of the Ox).
