In the content of the Report assessing the implementation of the 2019 State Budget, estimating the State Budget, and proposing the allocation of the Central Budget for 2020, the Government of Vietnam has proposed to increase the statutory pay rate in 2020 to 1.6 million VND/month (an increase of 110,000 VND/month), and the majority of opinions in the Finance and Budget Committee agreed with this proposal.

If this proposal by the Government of Vietnam is approved by the National Assembly, it will be the highest increase in recent years (previous years' increases ranged from 60,000 VND/month to 100,000 VND/month).

This statutory pay rate is used as a basis to:

- Calculate salaries in salary scales, allowances, and implement other policies as per legal regulations;- Calculate operational fees and living expenses as per legal regulations;- Calculate deductions and policies based on the statutory pay rate.

With the increase in the statutory pay rate, the monthly salary and allowances calculated based on the statutory pay rate for officials and public employees will also increase accordingly.
