Head of the Military Admissions Committee of the Ministry of National Defense has just signed Official Dispatch 05/TSQS-NT providing guidelines for registration and preliminary selection for military universities and colleges in 2017, which accordingly only allows candidates to participate in the preliminary admissions of either Military schools or Police schools in Vietnam.
Below are the basic information to grasp:
1. Preliminary Selection Time | From March 1, 2017 to April 25, 2017 |
2. Recruitment Regions | a) Military Officer Schools 1 and 2: - Military Officer School 1: Recruit candidates from Quang Tri province and northwards; - Military Officer School 2: Recruit candidates from Thua Thien - Hue province and southwards; - Candidates from Quang Tri and Thua Thien - Hue provinces, depending on their wish, may register to apply to either Military Officer School 1 or Military Officer School 2; - Candidates applying to Military Officer School 2 must have a permanent residence in the South (from Quang Tri province and southwards), the duration of the Southern permanent residence (calculated until September of the application year) must be continuously 3 years or more, and must have studied and taken the high school graduation exam in at least the 12th grade in the provinces in the South. b) For the remaining schools: Recruit nationwide. c) Candidates with permanent residence in the South are calculated from Quang Tri and southwards. The time to calculate the Southern permanent residence until September of the application year must be continuously 3 years or more. d) The Recruitment Board of the units and localities shall list those candidates with a permanent residence in the South but do not meet the conditions to be considered for the Southern region standard scores and hand them over to academies and schools along with the candidates' preliminary selection records. |
3. Recruitment Subjects | a) Military undergraduate training: - Non-commissioned officers, soldiers currently in service with a service time of 12 months or more (as of April of the recruitment year); Professional soldiers; Defense public employees serving in the military for 12 months or more (as of September of the recruitment year). If the above subjects wish to register for selection, their units shall organize preliminary selection, establish preliminary selection files for those who meet the standards, and submit them to the schools according to the correct procedure, ensuring sufficient personnel to perform tasks and be ready for combat. - Male youths outside the military (including discharged soldiers), the number of registered applicants is unlimited. - Female youths outside the military and female soldiers: + Recruit 10% of quotas for the majors: Military doctor at Military Medical Academy and majors: International relations on defense, foreign languages at Military Science Academy; + Recruit no more than 6% of the total quotas for the majors: Information technology, Electronic telecommunications, Biomedical electronics, Optical instruments, Geo-information at Military Technical Academy. b) Military college training - College training in Aeronautical Engineering at Air Force Officer School: Recruitment subjects are implemented as for military undergraduate training; - College training in Archive and Documentation at University of Military Culture and Arts: Recruit male and female candidates who are in-service soldiers, workers, and public employees serving in the military. |
4. Health Conditions | a) Health Standards - Select candidates (both male and female) who meet Grade 1 and Grade 2 standards as regulated in Joint Circular 16/2016/TTLT-BYT-BQP on the following indicators: Internal medicine, neurological psychiatry, surgery, dermatology, eyes (except myopia which has separate regulations), ear - nose - throat, oral - maxillofacial, chest circumference; - Some specific standards: + Officer commanding, political, logistic training schools, including the academies: Logistics, Air Defense - Air Force, Navy, Border Guard and officer schools: Military Officer School 1, Military Officer School 2, Political, Artillery, Engineer, Armor, Information, Special Forces, Chemical:
+ Technical specialized officer training schools, including the academies: Military Technology, Military Medical, Military Science; University of Military Culture and Arts; Aeronautical engineering training at Air Defense - Air Force Academy; Military Technology Officer School (Vin-Hem Pich):
+ Candidates with a permanent residence for 3 years or more in Region 1, islands, and ethnic minority candidates applying to schools (both males and females): Must have physical attributes meeting Grade 1 and Grade 2 standards, but males must have a height of ≥ 1.62 m; + Male candidates from 16 very small ethnic groups listed in the Scheme Supporting Socio-Economic Development for Very Small Ethnic Minorities in the 2016 - 2020 period by the Government of Vietnam (including the ethnic groups: La Hu, La Ha, Pa Then, Lu, Chut, Lo Lo, Mang, Co Lao, Bo Y, Cong, Si La, Pu Peo, Ro Mam, Brau, O Du, Phu La) applying to all schools: May have a height of ≥ 1.60 m (other standards are implemented as for candidates who are ethnic minorities in general); + Officer training subjects from military branches, arms if selecting health according to specific standards must still meet general standards; + Pilot recruitment at Air Force Officer School: Only select candidates who have been health-checked by the Air Defense - Air Force Command and concluded to be fit for the military pilot training. |

Candidates are only allowed to participate in the preliminary admissions of either Military schools or Police schools in Vietnam
According to the guidance in Official Dispatch 05/TSQS-NT of the Military Recruitment Council of the Ministry of Defense, when registering for preliminary selection, candidates must register for their first choice (highest priority) in the school they submit preliminary selection documents to; the remaining choices, candidates shall register for schools outside the Military or the civilian system of Military schools, complying with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Military schools and Police schools only consider candidates registered with the first choice (highest priority), therefore candidates can only prepare preliminary selection documents for one of the two school categories (schools under the Ministry of Public Security or schools under the Ministry of Defense).
