Validity period of temporary vehicle registration certificates for motor vehicles and specialized motor vehicles in Vietnam from January 1, 2025

The validity term of temporary vehicle registration certificates for motor vehicles and specialized motor vehicles is stipulated in Article 24 of Circular 79/2024/TT-BCA as follows:

- In cases where vehicles are in the process of withdrawal for re-export or change of ownership, and vehicles have obtained a certificate of technical safety and environmental protection, an inspection certificate upon leaving the manufacturing facility, and are being transported from the factory to a warehouse, port, or from warehouse, port, factory, dealership to registration location or to other dealerships or storage locations: The temporary vehicle registration certificate is valid for 15 days and may be extended once for a maximum of 15 days.

- In cases of vehicles serving events organized by the Vietnam Communist Party or the State; foreign registered vehicles permitted by competent authorities, including vehicles with right-hand drive, entering Vietnam for transit, temporary import, and re-export for a specific period to attend conferences, fairs, exhibitions, sports, and tourism events: The temporary vehicle registration certificate will be noted according to the period permitted by the competent authority for these activities.

- In cases of test vehicles for research and development purposes that need to participate in road traffic: The temporary vehicle registration certificate will be noted according to the requested period by the organization or individual conducting the testing, but not exceeding 6 months. If necessary, extensions may be granted each time not exceeding 6 months.

- When extending, the vehicle owner must declare the temporary vehicle registration application form via the public service portal or directly at the vehicle registration authority.

- Vehicles with temporary registration are allowed to participate in traffic according to the timeline, route, and scope of operations specified in the temporary vehicle registration certificate.
