HIV Testing for Pregnant Women: How Many Times?
According to Article 4 of Circular 09/2021/TT-BYT stipulating the timing and frequency of HIV testing for pregnant women:
Pregnant women who are unaware of their HIV status and agree to an HIV test are required to undergo HIV testing during periodic prenatal check-ups or during labor and delivery, as per the national guidelines on reproductive health care services for pregnant women issued by the Ministry of Health. Specifically:
The first HIV test should be conducted as early as possible.
The second HIV test is for cases involving high-risk behaviors as stipulated in Clause 6, Article 2 of the Law on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control No. 64/2006/QH11, as follows:
a) Engaging in high-risk behaviors within 3 months prior to the first HIV test;
b) Engaging in high-risk behaviors after the first HIV test.
