Ministries and Ministerial-Level Agencies' Responsibilities in State Management of Environmental Protection
According to Article 167 of the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 (Effective from January 1, 2022), the responsibilities of ministries and ministerial-level agencies for state management of environmental protection are as follows:
The Ministry of National Defense is responsible for organizing the implementation of environmental protection laws in the field of national defense; building and organizing forces and means to participate in responding to and addressing environmental incidents; participating in cross-border and offshore environmental monitoring as prescribed by law.
The Ministry of Public Security is responsible for organizing the implementation of environmental protection laws within the activities of the People's Public Security force; directing and organizing activities to prevent and combat crimes and violations of laws related to environmental crimes; ensuring security, order, and social safety in the field of environmental protection as prescribed by law; mobilizing forces to respond to and remedy environmental incidents as prescribed by law.
Ministries and ministerial-level agencies, within the scope of their duties and powers, have the responsibility to cooperate with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in performing state management tasks on environmental protection.
The Government of Vietnam provides detailed regulations on the responsibilities of ministries and ministerial-level agencies for performing state management tasks on environmental protection as specified by this Law.
