Requesting to Overtake the Vehicle Ahead: Is Honking Allowed?
Can one honk when overtaking the vehicle in front?
According to Article 14 of the 2008 Road Traffic Law, the regulations on overtaking are as follows:
1. The vehicle requesting to overtake must signal using lights or horn; in urban areas and densely populated areas, from 22:00 to 05:00, only the light signal is allowed.
Vehicles requesting to overtake are only allowed to do so when there are no obstacles ahead, no oncoming vehicles in the overtaking segment, the vehicle in front has no signal to overtake another vehicle, and has already moved to the right.
When there is a vehicle requesting to overtake, if safe conditions are met, the driver of the front vehicle must reduce speed, move to the right side of the lane until the overtaking vehicle has passed, and must not create obstacles for the overtaking vehicle.
Based on current regulations, in the case of requesting to overtake the vehicle in front, honking is allowed. However, in urban areas and densely populated areas, honking is not allowed and only the light signal can be used from 22:00 to 05:00 the next morning.
Is reversing allowed in pedestrian crossing areas?
According to Article 16 of the 2008 Road Traffic Law, the regulations on reversing are as follows:
When reversing, the driver must observe the back, signal adequately, and only reverse when it is safe to do so.
Reversing is not allowed in prohibited stopping areas, pedestrian crossing areas, intersections, level crossings with railways, places with obstructed vision, in road tunnels, and on expressways.
In pedestrian crossing areas, the driver is not allowed to reverse.
