Who can get the 3rd dose of COVID-19 vaccine in Vietnam

The Ministry of Health of Vietnam has just released Offical Dispatch 10225/BYT-DP on basic and booster doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

According to the Dispatch, in order to strengthen the immunity of people vaccinated with the full basic dose, the Ministry of Health of Vietnam proposes the Departments of Health of provinces and units to continue to accelerate the progress of vaccination against COVID-19 vaccine for 18 years of age and older people

Prioritizing full basic dose injection for people aged 50 and morer under the direction of the Government, the Prime Minister, the National Steering Committee of Vietnam for COVID-19 Prevention and Control and the Ministry of Health.

Subjects receiving additional doses of vaccine against COVID-19

According to the guidance of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam, subjects to receive additional doses of COVID-19 vaccine are people aged 18 years or older, especially people aged 50 years and older who have received the full basic dose (1 or 2 or 3 doses depending on the vaccine) with moderate to severe immunosuppression such as:

- Organ transplant, cancer, HIV;

- People who are taking immunosuppressive drugs or have been treated within 6 months...

The vaccine used is the same as the basal dose or the mRNA vaccine.

Regarding the interval between injections, the Ministry of Health of Vietnam instructs to inject an additional dose after the last dose of the basic dose at least 28 days if there is enough vaccine.

Booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine in Vietnam

The Ministry of Health of Vietnam stated that the booster dose is for people aged 18 years or older with priority given to people with underlying medical conditions, people aged 50 and more..

Type of vaccine: if the primary or supplementary injections are of the same type of vaccine, a booster of the same type or mRNA vaccine; If different vaccines have been given before, give a booster shot with mRNA vaccine.

If the primary or supplementary dose is a Sinopharm vaccine, a booster dose of the same or an mRNA vaccine or a viral vector vaccine (Astrazeneca vaccine) can be given.

Interval: 1 booster dose at least 6 months after the last dose of the basic or supplementary dose.

Note that vaccines used for booster and booster injections are vaccines approved by the Ministry of Health of Vietnam. The dose of vaccine for additional injection and booster according to the manufacturer's instructions for use has been approved by the Ministry of Health.
