On February 5, 2025, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City issued Official Dispatch 462/SGDDT-KTKD on the selection of the third exam subject for the grade 10 entrance exam and guidance on the admission criteria for secondary schools in the academic year 2025-2026.

The specific schedule for the 2025-2026 grade 10 entrance exam in HCMC is as follows:

- Exam dates: June 6 and 7, 2025

- Number of exams: three subjects including Mathematics, Literature (120 minutes per subject), Foreign Language (90 minutes).

- Candidates registering for specialized high schools in the city must take a fourth subject (specialized subject) with a duration of 150 minutes per subject. Each specialized subject will have a separate exam based on the secondary school curriculum, ensuring the selection of gifted students in that subject.

Thus, candidates for grade 10 in the academic year 2025-2026 in HCMC, Vietnam, will take the exam over two days from June 6 to 7, 2025, with three subjects being Mathematics, Literature, and Foreign Language.

Specifically, candidates applying to specialized high schools in HCMC must take a fourth subject (specialized subject) with a duration of 150 minutes per subject.

What are procedures for high school admissions in 2025 in Vietnam?

According to the provisions in Article 12 of the Regulations on Admission to Secondary Schools and High Schools promulgated with Circular 30/2024/TT-BGDDT (effective fromFebruary 14, 2025) on the high school admission process:

- The Chairperson of the Provincial People's Committee approves the high school admission plan. The high school admission plan includes the following basic contents: admission subjects; admission quotas and areas; admission methods; policies for direct admission, priority, encouragement; time for admission consideration and announcement of admission results. The high school admission plan is announced before March 31 annually.

For high schools under the Ministry of Education and Training, universities, research institutes, the high school admission plan is directly managed and decided by the Minister of Education and Training, University Director, University President, or Institute Director after agreement with the Department of Education and Training where the school is located.

- Based on the approved high school admission plan, the High School Admission Council formulates and publicly announces the school’s admission plan; organizes admission registrations and prepares for the registration content.

- The High School Admission Council organizes the admission process according to the approved plan and proposes the list of admitted students to the School Principal for submission to the Director of the Department of Education and Training for approval.

For high schools under the Ministry of Education and Training, universities, research institutes, the list of admitted students is directly approved and managed by the Minister of Education and Training, University Director, University President, or Institute Director.

Who are eligible for direct admission to high school in Vietnam from February 14, 2025?

According to the provision in Article 14 of the Regulations on Admission to Secondary Schools and High Schools promulgated with Circular 30/2024/TT-BGDDT, the following subjects are eligible for direct admission to high school:

Article 14. Direct Admission and Priority Admission Policies for High School

1. Direct admission to high school is applicable for the following subjects:

a) Students from ethnic boarding secondary schools.

b) Students from very small ethnic minority groups.

c) Students with disabilities.

d) Secondary school students winning national-level awards organized by the Ministry of Education and Training or in cooperation with Ministries and equivalent agencies on a national scale in competitions, contests, and festivals (hereinafter referred to as competitions) in culture, arts, sports; scientific and technical research competitions.

e) Secondary school students winning international competitions as designated by the Minister of Education and Training.
