Domestic violence refers to intentional actions by a family member that cause harm or have the potential to cause harm in terms of physical, mental, sexual, or economic aspects to another family member. (Clause 1, Article 2 of the Law on Prevention and Control of Domestic Violence 2022)
Based on Clause 1, Article 3 of the Law on Prevention and Control of Domestic Violence 2022, acts of domestic violence include:
(1) Torture, mistreatment, beating, threatening, or other intentional acts harmful to health or life;
(2) Insulting, offensive conduct, or other intentional acts degrading the honor or dignity;
(3) Forcing someone to witness violence against people or animals to exert constant psychological pressure;
(4) Neglecting, not caring for; not nurturing or taking care of family members who are children, pregnant women, women raising children under 36 months old, the elderly, the disabled, or those unable to care for themselves; not educating child family members;
(5) Discriminating or distinguishing treatment based on physique, gender, sex, or abilities of family members;
(6) Preventing family members from meeting relatives or having legitimate, healthy social relationships, or other acts aimed at isolation and constant psychological pressure;
(7) Preventing the exercise of rights and obligations in family relationships between grandparents and grandchildren; between parents and children; between husband and wife; and between siblings;
(8) Disclosing or spreading private life information, personal secrets, or family secrets of a family member to insult their honor or dignity;
(9) Forcing a spouse to engage in unwanted sexual relations;
(10) Forcing performances of lewd acts; forcing listening to sounds, watching images, or reading pornographic or violence-inducing content;
(11) Coercing early marriage, marriage, divorce, or obstructing legal marriage or divorce;
(12) Forcing pregnancy, abortion, or selection of fetal gender;
(13) Seizing or destroying family common property or another family member's private property;
(14) Forcing a family member to study or work beyond their strength, contribute financially beyond their ability; controlling a family member's property or income to create dependency on material, mental, or other aspects;
(15) Isolating, confining family members;
(16) Forcing a family member out of their legal residence illegally.
