The AFF Cup 2024, officially known as the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2024, is the 15th edition of the Southeast Asian football championship, featuring national teams from the region competing. The tournament takes place from December 8, 2024, to January 5, 2025, with the group stage from December 8 to December 21, 2024, the semi-finals on December 26, 27, 29, and 30, 2024, and the final on January 2 and 5, 2025.
Thailand is the current champion, having won the cup seven times, the most in the tournament's history.

According to Article 7 of the National Sports Teams Management Regulations issued with Decision 1377/2004/QD-UBTDTT, the procedures for summoning and training the National Sports Teams of Vietnam are as follows:
(1) Procedures for summoning and training the National Sports Teams of Vietnam:
- The Department collaborates with the National Sports Federation and Association to prepare a preliminary list of the national sports team; drafts a proposal along with the team member list, opinions of the Expert Council, and related units before submitting it to the Minister, Chairman of the Sports and Physical Training Committee for decision;
- The Department of High Achievement Sports notifies national and local sports training centers and sectors with national team members;
- The Department of High Achievement Sports oversees the implementation of the decision by the Minister, Chairman of the Sports and Physical Training Committee.
(2) Procedure for releasing training of the National Sports Teams of Vietnam:
- The Department of High Achievement Sports, based on the request of the national team coaching staff, the Department, the Director of the national sports training center, and relevant functional units, submits a decision to the Minister, Chairman of the Sports and Physical Training Committee to release national team training.
- The Department of High Achievement Sports issues the decision and oversees its implementation by relevant organizations and individuals.
Thus, the procedure for summoning national sports team training is carried out in accordance with the National Sports Team Management Regulations. Specifically, departments collaborate with federations and associations to prepare a preliminary list, draft a proposal with opinions from the Expert Council and related units before seeking approval from the Minister, Chairman of the Sports and Physical Training Committee.
Subsequently, the Department of High Achievement Sports notifies national and local sports training centers and sectors with national team members; and checks the implementation of the decision by the Minister, Chairman of the Sports and Physical Training Committee.
