Upcoming the time for performing military service in 2025 in Vietnam, when will citizens be enlisted for military service? How long is the military service in Vietnam?

1. When will citizens be enlisted for military service in 2025 in Vietnam?

Based on Article 33 of the Law on Military Service 2015:

Article 33. Frequency and Time of Calling Citizens for Military Service and Participation in the People’s Public Security Force During the Year

Annually, citizens are called for military service and participation in the People's Public Security Force once in February or March; in necessary cases due to defense and security reasons, citizens can be called for a second time for military service and participation in the People's Public Security Force. For areas affected by disasters or dangerous epidemics, the enlistment and participation times can be adjusted.

Thus, for the military service in 2025, citizens will be called for enlistment in February 2025 or March 2025.

Under normal conditions (2 years, not extending active duty service time and no early discharge), soldiers called for military service in 2025 will be discharged around February and March 2027.

2. How long is the military service in Vietnam?

In Article 21 of the Law on Military Service 2015:

Article 21. Active Duty Service Period for Non-Commissioned Officers and Soldiers

1. The active duty service period in peacetime for non-commissioned officers and soldiers is 24 months.

2. The Minister of National Defense may decide to extend the active duty service period for non-commissioned officers and soldiers by no more than 6 months in the following cases:

a) To ensure combat readiness tasks;

b) When performing tasks of disaster prevention, epidemic prevention, rescue and salvage.

3. The service period of non-commissioned officers and soldiers in wartime or in a state of national defense emergency shall be implemented according to the general or partial mobilization order.

Thus, the military service in 2025 will last for 24 months (2 years) and can be extended by no more than 6 months in the following cases: To ensure combat readiness tasks; when performing tasks of disaster prevention, epidemic prevention, rescue and salvage.

3. What are procedures for military service health examination in Vietnam?

Based on Clause 6 Article 8 of Circular 105/2023/TT-BQP, the health examination procedure is regulated as follows:

Step 1: Prepare a list of citizens to be examined;

Step 2: Notify the time and place for organizing the health examination (Issue an order for the health examination);

Step 3: Conduct the health examination according to the content specified in Clause 5 of this Article and perform it in 2 rounds: Physical, clinical examination and para-clinical examination, screening for HIV, drugs. When conducting the physical and clinical examination, if the citizen does not meet one of the health standards specified in Clause 1 Article 4 of this Circular, the Commission's member directly examining must report to the Chairman of the Commission to stop the examination. Only conduct blood, urine tests; HIV, drug tests for citizens who meet the health standards after physical, clinical examination, ultrasound, electrocardiogram, and straight chest X-ray.

Organize counseling and HIV testing according to the law on HIV/AIDS prevention and control for those who meet the health standards;

Step 4: Complete the Military Service Health Examination Form according to Form 3 Annex V issued with Circular 105/2023/TT-BQP;

Step 5: Summarize and report the results of the military service health examination according to Form 2b Annex VI issued with Circular 105/2023/TT-BQP.

4. What are cases of exemption from military service in 2025 in Vietnam?

According to the provisions of Article 14 and Clause 2 Article 41 of the Law on Military Service 2015, the cases of exemption from military service in 2025 in Vietnam are as follows:

* Subjects exempt from military service registration:

- Persons with disabilities,

- Persons with serious illnesses,

- Persons with mental illness or chronic diseases.

* Subjects exempt from enlistment:

- Children of martyrs, children of severely wounded soldiers;

- One brother or one sister of martyrs;

- One child of war invalids of the second degree; one child of sick soldiers with a working capacity reduction of 81% or more; one child of persons exposed to chemical toxins with a working capacity reduction of 81% or more;

- Persons doing cryptographic work who are not military personnel or Public Security officers;

- Officials and public employees, youths who are mobilized to work in areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions according to the law for 24 months or more.

If a citizen falling under the above exemption criteria volunteers, they can be considered for enlistment.

The list of citizens subject to enlistment exemption must be publicly posted at the office of the commune-level People’s Committee, agency, or organization for a period of 20 days.
