The Ministry of Health of Vietnam stated that up until now, legislative documents have been continuously updated and issued guiding the vaccination against Covid-19 for subjects based on the instructions of the manufacturer, the recommendations of the Advisory Council for the use of vaccines from the Ministry of Health, recommendations of international organizations.
In order to facilitate the process of organizing vaccination against Covid-19 for the the citizens on the basis of the issued guidelines, the Ministry of Health suggested that the Departments of Health of provinces, cities and units continue to urgently launching the vaccination of additional shot, booster shots and 3rd doses of Covid-19 vaccine for people 18 years of age or older, completing vaccination of 2 shots for children from 5 to under 12 years old in August 2022, ensuring the safety and efficiency; urgently organizing the vaccination against Covid-19 with the 4th dose for those 18 years of age or older who are indicated for vaccination; developing a plan and organizing the vaccination of 3rd doses of Covid-19 vaccine for children from 12 to under 18 years old.
The legislative document of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam clearly states that an additional dose (this dose is not the third dose) is given to subjects 18 years of age or older, including subjects with moderate and severe immunodeficiency such as subjects undergoing cancer treatment, testing positive for tumors or blood cancers; Organ transplant recipients who are taking immunosuppressive drugs; subjects receiving T-cell antibody receptor therapy (a type of treatment that helps the immune system attack and destroy cancer cells) or having a stem cell transplant (within the past 2 years); subjects with moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (eg, DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome); subjects with advanced or untreated HIV; subjects who are on active treatment with corticosteroids or high-dose immunosuppressive drugs.
Subjects who have received the full basic dose of Sinopharm vaccine (Vero cell) or Sputnik V vaccine.
Vaccines used are the same type with basic dose or an mRNA vaccine; or Astrazeneca vaccine for subjects receiving the basic doses of Sinopharm vaccine (Vero cell).
Interval: from 28 days to 3 months after the last dose of the basic dose(s).
Dosage: According to the manufacturer's instructions for use approved by the Ministry of Health.
Subject who have contracted Covid-19 should be vaccinated immediately after recovering and completing medical isolation as prescribed.
Subjects: People 18 years of age or older who have received the basic doses (1 or 2 or 3 depending on the type of vaccine and additional shots if have).
Vaccine type: Same vaccine as baic doses or mRNA vaccine; or Astrazeneca vaccinefor subjects receiving the basic doses of Sinopharm vaccine (Vero cell) or mRNA vaccine.
Interval: at least 3 months after the last dose of the basic dose(s).
Dosage: According to the manufacturer's instructions for use approved by the Ministry of Health. For Moderna vaccine: 0.25ml dose (1/2 basic dose).
Subject who have contracted Covid-19 should be vaccinated immediately after recovering and completing medical isolation as prescribed.
Subjects: People 50 years of age and older; people 18 years of age or older with moderate to severe immunodeficiency; people 18 years of age or older who are in high-risk groups for exposure to Covid-19 such as health workers, frontline officers (police forces, army, teachers, people working in the transportation sector, etc.) people providing essential services, people working at tourist service establishments, trade centers, supermarkets, markets), workers, people working in industrial parks.
Vaccine type: mRNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna vaccine); AstraZeneca vaccine; vaccine of the same type as the 3rd dose (1st booster).
Interval: At least 4 months after the 3rd dose (1st booster).
Subject who have contracted Covid-19 after the 3rd injection: vaccinate 3 months after the Covid-19 infection and ensure a gap of at least 4 months after the 3rd dose.
Subjects: Children from 12 years old to under 18 years old who have had the basic doses (1st dose an 2nd dose)
Vaccine type: Pfizer vaccine has been approved by the Ministry of Health to use for this age group.
Dosage: 0.3 ml dose similar to the basic dose of subject 12 years of age and older.
Interval: At least 5 months after the last dose of the basic doses (2nd shot).
Subject who have contracted Covid-19: Vaccinate 3 months after Covid-19 infection ensuring that the interval from the last dose of the basic doses is at least 5 months.
Vaccine type: the same type approved by the Ministry of Health for use in this age group.
Dosage: according to the corresponding age
Interval: according to the instructions of the manufacturer and the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology
- Pfizer vaccines are for children from 5 to 12 years old;
- Moderna vaccines are for children from 6 to 12 years old;
Children from 5 to under 12 years old who have contracted Covid-19: Vaccinate 3 months after Covid-19 infection.
